Someone brings you flowers from their garden do you return the vase?

Yes otherwise they will eventually run out of vases.

Someone brings you flowers from their garden do you return the vase?
Yes, I clean and return the vase so it can be "recycled".
Reply:I couldn't find this in an etiquette book. My instinct would be to return it with a thank you note attached.
Reply:It sounds like it is part of the gift. But, I think it's ok to ask if he/she wants it back.
Reply:Yep.
Reply:Yes,with flowers in it as a thank you!
Reply:I think you should offer to give it back or give it back with something inside as a gift to them. I gave my neighbor some fresh potatoes in a cute basket. I truly intended on getting my basket back but she never brought it back nor even mentioned it again. I started once to ask for it back but I didn't. I guessed that she needed the basket a heck of a lot more than I did...lol Please, if you don't have anything you could put in the vase as a thank you to your friend then at least mention it to her.
Reply:I would put more of your own flowers in it or put a thank you note or something who knows it could become a tradition of passing the vase! :o)
Reply:One part of me says the vase is part of the gift. On the other hand, if they had given you cookies, you would return the plate. So it's better to just go ahead and return the vase to be on the safe side.
Reply:Yes, always, unless told other wise. Had a dear friend who kept vases until I got so I would buy very cheap ones or cheap baskets to take her flowers in. It always made me feel funny to see her display my nice vase in her house. But I said nothing because she thanked me so often for the lovely vase I had given her. I valued her much more than the vase, anyway.
Reply:The vase should be considered as part of the gift. When you give a good bottle of wine, do you give the bottle back after you drink the wine?
Reply:Yes, and always return with something in it.
Reply:not unless they ask for it, i would think the vase was part of the gift
Reply:Yes, return the vase. Put some flowers or candy or bath beads in it to return the favor.
Reply:YES. If they want you to keep it, they will tell you when you bring it back. If the flowers came from their garden, the vase should be considered a loan. If the flowers are delivered from a florist, the vase is yours to keep.
Reply:No, the vase was part of the gift. Otherwise they would have just given you the flowers with the stalks wrapped in plastic or damp paper towels. Next gift you give that person, make sure it's presented in an equally elegant manner.
Reply:Yes, they were just being extra thoughful by putting the cut flowers in water as opposed to just hoping you would have one
Reply:If someone from the same sex gave me flowers i would punch them in the face. And smash the vase on their head.
