Reply:So much depends on factors you do control and those you do not. Each year a particular type of flower does better due to rainfall amounts, heat, humidity, insects, fungi, etc.

Simple, yet basic, plant the flower that "can" do well in the location. Is the bed in full-sun or full-shade? Is irrigation available if needed? Is the bed prepared properly? Perhaps overlooked is, how much exposure to the wind/breeze does the flower get?

There are extensive lists of plants which flower in either a shade or sun location. There are also extensive lists as to how much work is required to maintain any planting bed. Review your bed location(s). Review your commitment to maintenance of the bed. With better info I can certainly help you. I am at gjgjobs@yahoo.com. Good Luck.
Reply:My favorite flowers are daylilies because there are so many different kinds. However I like canna for their tropical appeal, Rose of Sharon for their constant flowering, lilac for their smell, daffadills as a sign of spring, and geraniums in hanging baskets.

Reply:First you need to figure out what kind of climate you are in. If you are in the north, you want to make sure there is no chance of frost before doing any planting outside. Then you need to know if you are planting in a spot that has all shade, partial shade, or all sun. Is there proper drainage so the soil doesn't stay wet or are you planting in a area that has constant wetness? You need to decide if you want to keep planting every year or do you want plants that will come back on their own each year. If you don't want to fuss much with your flowers, pick ones that are easy to grow without requiring a lot of maintenance. If you like to spend hours outside dead heading plants (remove flowers after they've bloomed and shriveled), cutting back plants after the end of their season or tending to flowers that need a great deal of care then plant whatever you want. You can stick to color schemes or go wild with any color imaginable. Just have fun doing it. Oh yeah, I love to plant clematis, marigolds, snap dragons, inpatients and violets.
Reply:I like to plant tulips. They are so pretty when they come up. It's like the official greeting that spring is here! Mine are just now coming up.

I also like to plant marigolds and petunias.

I'm a new gardner, just started last year so I have much to learn!
Reply:Sunflowers of course. Their so happy and cheer full.
Reply:I love orchids, but keep them in pots.
Reply:Zenias, yellow roses, and inpatients (they are very easy to take care of).
Reply:I like different kinds of flowers also. I start some from seed I save from my last year plants. I aslo purchase seeds and flowers for the seasons.

Have fun, I know I do.
Reply:Roses, hibiscus, camellias. I particularly like hibiscus hybrids - they produce among the most stunning flowers.
