Small Flower Garden Advice?

I have a very small, sunny spot, round garden (5x6 approx.), currently with a small patch of established blue flax. I won't move the flax, as it is a beautiful bush like shrub now. I need to fill the rest of the spot with other things. I have experimented over the yrs, and never seem to get it looking nice. I live in Wisconsin. So winters are tough, summers short. Any ideas for perennials or annuals? Anything to beautify this small space??

Girlfriend, SUNFLOWERS! They are DA BOMB! I didn't know you were a gardener!

where in Wisconsin...that is where I go for my vacation! :)
Reply:sounds like Canada!impatiens are great and easy to care for.they like little sun.Petunias are even easier, they like heat.So many colors available.Impatiens,if you can use them, should be in front because they are small. If you want color and simplicity go for these.Good luck.
Reply:Some annuals that would look nice are geraniums, coleus, marigolds, salvia.
